When we talk about the coolest 'Wicket-Keeping Batsmen' in cricket history, one name that comes in our mind is MS Dhoni. He is the reason for many ups and downs in the Indian cricket history. From winning a world cup to losing a match in Australia in 2019 because of slow batting we all grew up praising as well as cursing MSD. In his old days he was the fastest runner on the ground and he still does it but now the difference is that he gets tired really quick and it is obvious because 'Age Factor' is something that does not spare anybody. So now what? Should BCCI replace MSD for other player to make a different ODI squad? We know that he is like an "Insurance" for the team that comes into action when everyone fails. Different people has different views but I will try to put unbiased analysis of this case.
In the first sentence I have mentioned the term 'wicket-keeping batsmen' and even age factor could not beat the stumping speed of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He is not only the fastest man behind the stumps but also the coolest player on the ground who always stays calm and cool in whatever situation arises. The way he uses his cricketing experience and skills is commendable and sets an example of great sportsmanship. To justify his importance in the team, here we have some statistics from ESPNcricinfo to look at.
- Span - 2004-2019
- Matches - 337
- Innings - 332
- Dismissals - 430
- Catches - 311
- Stumpings - 119
The above figures are the best in the history of world cricket. MSD is the No.1 wicket keeper in the world and for your surprise he has the highest 6 dismissals in a single match with 5 catches and 1 stumping. Yes, MS Dhoni is getting old by age but he is very important for Indian ODI squad because he always help in getting 3 to 4 wickets by himself and also leads the bowlers to pitch good line and length. MSD is very good at playing mind games and making strategy on the field. If Virat Kohli is the captain of this ODI Cruise then Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the engine that will sail safe and assure that the World Cup 2019 comes to India.
